Abstract : An experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of a transverse acoustic wave on a two-dimensional turbulent jet. The investigation consisted of taking mean pressure profiles at numerous axial locations to determine the jet widening rate, the jet decay rate, and the geometric and velocity virtual origins. A method was also devised, employing four hot wires, to determine the jet widening rate more readily than was possible from a reduction of the pressure profiles. (Author)
