Abstract : Recently works have appeared concerned with the measurement of viscous friction stress over the surface of a body by means of a controllable diffusion electrochemical reaction. The medium in which friction stress is measured by the given method is an electrolyte of special composition, while the sensor is an electrode (cathode) mounted flush with the surface on which the measurement is carried out. An electrochemical reaction occurs on the surface of the sensor; the rate of this reaction and, consequently, the force of current in the electrochemical cell are determined by the rate at which reacting ions are supplied by convective and molecular diffusion. Thus the friction can be determined. The report presents the mathematics of this technique. (Author)
