Abstract : The probabilistic buckling behavior of structures due to externally applied loads and initial internal forces caused by random lack-of-fit of members is treated as a random eigenvalue problem. For some structures, the critical buckling load can be related explicitly in terms of the random lack-of-fit parameter of the problem. Thus if the probability distribution of the lack-of-fit of members is known, the probability of critical buckling of the structure can be evaluated exactly. (Author)
