Abstract : Strain waves in a truncated conical shell generated by oblique impact of the small end of the shell are discussed. The analysis is based on the general first-order linear shell theory of Sanders with all pertinent variables expanded into Fourier series in circumferential direction, resulting in decoupled sets of ordinary differential equations. Finite-difference approximations to these differential equations are then solved by matrix techniques. (Author)
