Abstract : The experiment described in this report investigates the structure of binary sequences, their effect on pattern perception, and the effect of the number of stimuli in the pattern. Binary sequences (X's and O's) of lengths 6, 8, and 10 were presented tachistoscopically to subjects, who were required to reproduce the stimulus. The results indicate that the recall performance is directly related to the number of runs in the stimulus. The patterns of recall suggest a two-stage scanning process. (Author)
