Abstract : The budget of turbulent energy two meters above a grass surface was investigated for a range of atmospheric stabilities. For stable and neutral stratifications the turbulence showed evidence of considerable anisotropy; therefore, the energy dissipation rates could not be determined. For slightly unstable conditions the local production was balanced by the local dissipation. For more unstable stratifications the dissipation exceeded the production. The remainder term is discussed and some results on the velocity dissipation spectrum are presented. (Author)
