Abstract : Interdisciplinary physical, chemical and biological measurements were made in the New York Bight during 1969-70 using new in situ instrumentation, with associated monitoring by conventional procedures to check the performance. In situ instrumentation was found to be feasible for the measurement of chlorophll (and the related biomass), bioluminescence, Gelbstoff, pH, dissolved O2, salinity, and the location of the thermocline. It appears that the in situ instrumentation may be adapted to continuous synoptic monitoring of the estuarine and oceanographic parameters necessary for mathematical modeling. (Author)
