Abstract : A process is considered in which identical stochastic automata can form natural bonds, their internal state transition matrices then being affected by the external bonds currently existing. The clustering process of automata thus defined shows a criticality effect, in that infinite clusters first acquire positive probability when automaton density rho exceeds a certain value. The aim of the paper is to discover whether the expected distribution over automaton states changes discontinuously as the process passes through criticality. It is shown that, for the model of this paper, there is no discontinuity in either the distribution or its derivative with respect to rho as rho passes through the critical value. (Author)
