Abstract : A multilaboratory experimental program was conducted to determine the fracture toughness, fatigue-crack propagation, and sustained-load crack behavior of the D6AC steel plate and forging materials used in the F-111 aircraft. The purpose of this effort was to assess crack behavior in D6AC steel in accordance with the principles of elastic fracture mechanics, such that adequare information would be available to predict the structural inspection intervals required for the F-111 aircraft.
