Abstract : Resource analysis is defined and discussed in relation to several kinds of decision contexts. The following examples are noted: For an existing system an attempt is made to determine the preferred way to operate it. This may focus on the question of rate of output, in which case the methods of short-run theory may be applied. Where the size of the operation is still an open question, the attempt is made to determine the preferred scale of operations. For some major problem area in a distant future, the attempt is made to examine systematically relevant new system or program alternatives.
