Abstract : The response of a highly accelerated laminar boundary layer to disturbances introduced by a vibrating ribbon is described. The boundary layer was formed on a flat plate under the influence of a pressure gradient equal to that occurring at a two-dimensional stagnation point. The range of initial test Reynolds numbers was 492 to 805, and the range of nondimensional disturbance frequencies (Strouhal number) was .03 to .20. The qualitative effects of disturbances from extraneous sources are discussed, and some observations of the detailed motion of the vibrating ribbon are described.
