Abstract : Much progress has been made in the past few years in the attempt to predict sediment incipient motion based on a single water velocity measurement 100 cm above the bottom. Continued progress is based on the accumulation of many new data points relating bottom composition and topography to critical values of velocity. During the summer of 1971, experiments were conducted in Great Harbor, at Woods Hole, Massachusetts which were designed to add to the growing data bank in this field of investigation. Under the supervision of a visiting instructor, three student investigators proposed, developed, and operated equipment and procedures to gather such information. (Author)
