Abstract : The authors have pursued slip band formation and crack initiation as a function of frequency in titanium (Contimet 30). The specimens were loaded at 0.5, 5 and 50 Hz with a stress amplitude of 20.5 kp/sq mm in a Schenck servohydraulic fatigue testing machine. In an Amsler resonance testing machine the specimens were loaded at a frequency of 90 Hz with stress amplitudes of between 17.5 and 20 kp/sq mm. Results are discussed.
