Abstract : Conventional and dynamic field and laboratory tests were conducted to determine the properties of the undisturbed and backfill soils at the site of the field experiments conducted for the Ground Radius Effects Study, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Conventional laboratory tests were performed on undisturbed and remolded samples representative of the undisturbed and backfill soils. The tests consisted of visual classification of the samples and determination of the following: water content, unit weight, specific gravity, Atterberg limits, graduation, unconfined compressive strength, triaxial unconsolidated-undrained (Q) shear strength, and one-dimensional compressibility. The dynamic laboratory tests consisted of triaxial resonant frequency vibration tests. Dynamic field investigations consisting of seismic and vibration tests were performed in both the half-scale and full-scale experiments; the data on the dynamic characteristics of the undistrubed and remolded (backfill and laboratory) soils are tabulated in the report.
