Abstract : The paper describes an alternative approach for determining the optimal duration between scheduled maintenance actions, using the given constraints. There appears to be a tendency, when determining the proper interval between maintenance actions to be either too conservative or too liberal. The report is aimed toward enlightening present outlooks concerning the feasibility of examining a situation to attain an optimal interval. The approach and direction in this report is concentrated upon a cost comparison of the scheduled and the unscheduled cost of a maintenace action based upon the equipment's actuarial failure tendencies.
