Abstract : The paper presents a technique for the determination of certain maintainability parameters by using a computerized time summation process. The procedure is based upon historical data, subjective evaluation, and expert judgement. Because of the nature of the time summation process, this procedure is applicable to any type of equipment. A hypothetical system is analyzed to illustrate the application of the technique. Discussed are the mission profiles, operational modes, and preventive maintenance actions. Also explained is the preparation of the computer input data. Dependent failures, as well as independent failures are accounted for to a degree in this general treatment of maintainability prediction. (Author)
