Abstract : Data from Project HAVEN HOP, an AFCRL clear-air turbulence program, are presented. CAT encounters and associated meteorological data are shown for several individual cases. Analyses of these data showed the stronger CAT to be associated with strong static stability. This is in agreement with theoretical considerations in which K-H instability may form in stable layers associated with strong vertical wind shear. The analyses also suggested an association between CAT and the horizontal shear regions of the jet flow. (Author)
