Abstract : It is shown that a new lubricant (STP-1, containing a mixture of triethylene glycol and isobutanol esters as well as a given fraction of fatty acids) used in cold rolling plants cannot be effectively removed from the resulting waste waters (in which its concentration, in a suspended form, reaches greater than 500 mg per liter) by settling or filtration through a sand bed. The concentration of STP-1 in the water is reduced to 15 to 20 mg per liter by adding 0.4 to 0.8 g CaO per liter. (Author)
