Abstract : A study was made of the effect of niobium (0.1-0.78 percent) on the structure, mechanical properties, wear resistance, heat resistance, kinetics, martensite transformation, and isothermal breakdown of the austenite in a cast iron roller of composition: C - 3.0; Si - 0.38; Mn - 0.80; P - 0.14; S - 0.023; Cr - 0.83; Ni - 3.97 percent. The properties of Cr-Ni rollers contg. Nb in actual use for the hot rolling of thin sheet were studied. As a result, recommendations are made for alloying Cr-Ni sheet rolling with niobium 0.2 percent so as to increase their wear resistance and improve the quality of the sheet.
