Abstract : Many authors have treated the motion of a half-space of a condensed medium caused by the impact of a high-speed projectile, or by the detonation of an explosive at the surface. Most of the available data are the results of experiments or of computer calculations. The purpose of the present work is to present a synthesis of what is known, based on the analytical properties of the governing differential equations. (Author)
