Abstract : The question of protecting communication circuits from dangerous and perturbing voltages and currents are discussed. The book describes theories for the generation of extraneous voltages and currents in communication circuits and cable channels, arising from lightning, and from effects of energy transmission lines, electrified AC and DC railways, and radio stations. An approximate method is described for evaluating the effects of the various sources on cable circuits, and methods and procedures for protecting communication line installations from hazardous voltages and currents.
