Abstract : A description is given of a method for solving the system of differential equations describing the development of adiabatic and nonadiabatic flows of viscous compressible gas in the initial section of a pipe. Attention is given to the case where wall surface temperature throughout the pipe is constant but not necessarily equal to the stagnation temperature at flow center. Computer calculations of flow development were performed for a number of different outlet flow velocities and wall surface temperatures. The velocity and stagnation temperature distribution along the radius are obtained for different cross sections. Graphs show the variation of boundary layer thickness along the pipe length, friction stresses, specific heat flux, and friction and heat exchange coefficients. (Author)
