Abstract : An investigation of the effect of trailing appendages on the aerodynamic characteristics of a slender cone at very high Mach numbers is described. A 6.3-degree half-angle cone having two types of appendages was flown and the effect of these appendages on the angle of attack, drag, and stability determined. Also, the effect of Reynolds number was measured. This experimental program was conducted in the 1000-foot Hyperballistics Range at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory.
