Abstract : Pour point depressants for mineral oils and filtering agents for the separation of oil and paraffin in a propane deparaffining process are described. They are condensation products of naphthalene and chloroparaffin. Thus, crude oil with an oil content of 14.1 wt. percent and a solidification point of 48.6 degrees is chlorinated to similar to 16 wt. percent Cl. This is condensed (Friedel-Crafts reaction) with naphthalene and the product is used as a filter aid in the propane deparaffining of mineral oil. (Author)
