Abstract : A simple theory is developed which describes the fluctuation of a sound signal due to the influence of a standing gravity wave in a water-filled waveguide with idealized boundary conditions. The theory predicts a strong resonance of the fluctuation if the wave length of the surface wave is one-half of the acoustic wave length. The presence of this resonance is verified experimentally.
