Abstract : A performance and reliability study was made of fifteen power supply units, and five blasting machines for the M551 main gun firing-circuit. The study was made by the Research Directorate, Weapons Laboratory at Rock Island, U. S. Army Weapons Command. Five power supply units from each of three manufacturers were used in the evaluation; not any were completely reliable. An 'improved' blasting machine and four standard blasting machines were tested. The 'improved' machine indicated little, if any, advantage over the standard machine. Output voltage and power were sufficient to fire the main gun in all instances. (Author)
