Abstract : The Friedlander quinoline synthesis was applied to 4,6-diaminoisophthaldehyde. This compound was condensed with acetophenone, 2-acetylpyridine, 4-acetyldiphenylether and phenylacetaldehyde yielding the corresponding anthrazolines (Pyrido(2,3-g)quinolines). These model reactions were then applied to the polycondensation of 4,6-diaminoisophthaldehyde with p-diacetylbenzene, 2,6-diacetylpyridine and bis(p-acetylphenyl)ether. The resulting polymers have a high thermal stability as revealed by thermogravimetric analysis (620C break under nitrogen). The extension of the Friedlander quinoline synthesis in the pyridine series was investigated, resulting in new syntheses for 2-amino-3-formylpyridine and 2,6-diamino-3,5-diformylpyridine. (Author)
