Abstract : The security of Middle East oil supplies has been of great concern to the non-communist world since the Arab-Israel war in June 1967. The closure of the Suez Canal and the abortive attempt at an Arab boycott were a prelude to ultimately more significant development. A discussion is made of how the USSR may be interested in Middle East oil, and for what purposes and under what circumstances.
