Abstract : A method is described for testing myopic, hyperopic, emmetropic, and astigmatic vision using the speckle patterns of a laser. The tests significantly reduce the subjective judgments required of a patient. The subject does not need to know how to read; hence, young children and possibly laboratory animals could be tested. Results of laboratory tests are discussed. A physical system to implement the testing method is described. This testing method is extended to include measurementsof required corrective power and the accommodative response at wavelengths throughout the visible spectrum. (Author)
