Abstract : Laminar boundary layer development downstream of a suction slot was investigated in a low velocity wind tunnel. In order to observe the effect of suction on the boundary layer, detailed boundary layer profiles were measured at various stations upstream and downstream of a suction slot for different suction flow rates. The investigation was carried out for zero suction, 53.33 SCFH/FT. and 133.33 SCFH/FT. suction, by using 1/16 inch suction slot. The velocity profiles were plotted for 22 stations with different suction flow rates with respect to the no suction flow case. At the far upstream and downstream side of the slot, suction was ineffective and velocity profiles had the Blasius velocity profile shape. Suction had the maximum effectiveness a short distance in front of and downstream of the slot. As the distance from the slot increased both upstream and downstream, the velocity profiles tended to approach Blasius velocity profiles asymptotically. (Author)
