Abstract : The performance of compressor blades of EI961 stainless Cr-Ni steel was investigated in relation to its damping and fatigue characteristics and the effect of prior heat treatment. The damping properties of the material at various stress levels were investigated with the aid of a set-up designed to investigate the dissipation of energy during longitudinal and torsional vibrations adapted to measure the logarithmic decrement of vibration damping over a broad range of deformation amplitudes as well as to perform measurements in the magnetic field of a solenoid with an intensity reaching 80 ka/m, which makes it possible to investigate the mechanisms of energy dissipation in ferromagnetic materials.
