Abstract : Turbulence characteristics of wind and temperature data over heterogeneous terrain at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico are presented. More than 140 hours of data, collected in 2- to 7-hour increments during January, March and April of 1970, are graphically represented. The varied turbulence parameters are shown as functions of the Monin-Obukhov stability Index, z/L. The data presented include z/L in the range from -0.60 to 0.50. It is also shown that longitudinal stress due to transfer of lateral momentum can be neglected under near-neutral conditions but not for diabatic conditions. (Author)
