Abstract : The experimental investigation of the predisplacement of the metal-polymeric friction couples, stainless steel self lubricating material, resin P-68 and steel 35, aluminum polyethylene, and Teflon and steel 35 is described. The investigation results are discussed by reference to diagrams showing the predisplacements vs time and shifting force. The shifting contacts of the investigated friction couples are of a viscoelastic character, but their relaxations develop to a considerably higher degree than in metal friction couples. The transition of the predisplacement into slipping passes smoothly. The predisplacement of self lubricating polymeric materials increases with increasing load but remains nearly constant with increasing precontact period. (Author, modified-PL)
