Abstract : The objective of the program was to develop an alloy and to improve processing for cast air-cooled blades used in high performance gas turbines. The program was divided into three phases. Phase 1 was a screening study where 36 compositions were melted, cast and evaluated on the basis of 1400F tensile, 1800F/20 ksi stress rupture and hot corrosion tests. Phase 2 was a concurrent study of the effect of section size and processing variables upon the thin section properties of high temperature alloys. Phase 3 included the characterization of the two most promising alloys from Phase 1 using the processing results from Phase 2. (Author)
