Abstract : The authors have undertaken a study of the rate of propagation and coefficient of absorption of ultrasonic waves, density and transverse viscosity in n-propyl alcohol-water systems over a wide range of temperatures and pressures, including the critical region. A pulse ultrasonic apparatus, the design of which is described in detail, was used to investigate the acoustic properties of the n-propyl alcohol-water system. The selection of concentrations was dictated by the existence of an azeotropic n-propyl alcohol-water mixture and by the possibilities of the experimental apparatus. Binary mixtures containing 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 percent water in n-propyl alcohol were used. (Author)
