Abstract : A study was made of the influence of the content of chromium in steels on the temperature resistance of lubricating layers under boundary friction conditions. The investigations were performed by a temperature method, based on a gradual increase in the temperature of specimens in friction by an external heat source with an extremely low rate of friction, in order to eliminate friction heating of the surfaces. The experiments were performed on a four-ball friction machine. It was determined that the influence of chromium content in steels on temperature resistance of the boundary lubricating layers is similar to the influence of alloying of steel with chromium on the seizing load.
