Abstract : A discrete aggregate model is applied to the study of theoretical macroscopic response of FCC metal polycrystals. General, dual inequalities of macroscopic plasticity theory are reviewed and exhibited on subsequent yield surfaces in both stress and strain space as calculated for aluminum under biaxial straining. Predicted stress-strain curves are shown corresponding to a partial cycle of loading and reverse loading. The aggregate model contains several thousand crystallographic slip systems, and all quantitative results are obtained through sequential solution of constrained quadratic programming problems governing the incremental crystal shears.
