Abstract : The heterogeneous ignition of a solid propellant including the effect of a radiant heat flux, for the case in which the activation temperature is much larger than the temperatures appearing during the combustion process, has been studied. An asymptotic analysis based on the magnitude of the activation temperature, allows calculation of the temperature history at the interphase and the ignition times, for the cases of both large and low radiant heat fluxes. The results obtained are in close agreement with those of previous experimental and numerical works. (Author)
