Abstract : An experimental and theoretical investigation of the mixing of two co-axial turbulent jets of different velocity and different temperature in a pipe of circular cross-section and adiabatic wall is presented. The method permits the calculation of the flow parameters and the thermal parameters along the pipe axis. Approximate methods for calculating momentum and energy constitute the basis of the theory. For the velocity and temperature profiles in the mixing zone, laws of similarity, based on experiments, are used. Laws governing the shear stress and heat transfer are also founded on experimental results. The theory is valid for incompressible flows and, accordingly, for moderate velocities and temperature differences. A series of calculations for the parameters of velocity and temperature distributions has been performed. Comparisons of experimental and theoretical results show satisfactory agreement.
