Abstract : Stability of a system with two degrees of freedom subjected to a follower (circulatory) force is considered. The effect of a displacement feedback control on the critical force is examined. It is found that a judicial choice of feedback gains results in considerable higher critical forces. Further, the gains may be always selected in such a manner that stability is lost by either divergence, or by flutter. Absence of the possibility to lose stability by flutter may be advantageous.
