Abstract : In the investigation, an analytical study is presented of the propagation of axisymmetric harmonic waves in an infinite rod composed of two semi-infinite rods, of different isotropic materials, joined end to end. A source, located at an infinite distance from the interface separating the two rods, excites a continuous train of waves travelling toward the interface. The waves which are reflected and transmitted through the interface were studied using two approximate methods: first, by superimposing the modes of wave propagation of an approximate theory and, second, by superimposing a large number of exact (three-dimensional elasticity) modes of wave propagation.
