Abstract : A linear regression analysis was used to analyze mechanical property data from a statistically designed experiment which maximized the variability in heat treating parameters of a titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn, beta extruded ribbed panel. Using the results of the linear regression analysis, a computer program was executed to predict mechanical properties. Nine heat treatment cycles were chosen to test the validity of the predicted mechanical properties. Generally, the yield strength and ultimate strength are slightly higher than predicted; reduction of area is about as predicted; elongation is slightly lower than predicted; and fracture toughness is lower than predicted. Two heat treatment cycles were singled out as yielding superior properties over the other heat treatment cycles investigated. (Author)
