Abstract : The pulse technology of NMR (spin-echo technology) is a very convenient method for measuring the coefficient D(t) of the translational self-diffusion of molecules in a liquid. The authors compare the rotational activation energies obtained by optical methods with the barriers characterized directly by thermal translation of motion of molecules. The self diffusion and intermolecular actions of the following compounds were studied: Benzene; Toluene; Xylene; Chlorobenzene; Cyclohexane; Choloroform; Ethylene dichloride; Acetone; Acetonitrile; Water; Aniline; Phenol; and Benzophenone.
