Abstract : A brief review of literature relevant to human track initiation and maintenance performance was conducted for the purpose of determining: the limits in terms of track load within which the human can initiate and maintain, the variables affecting these limits, and methods for favorably altering the limits. Available data indicate that the human operator can initiate and maintain from 6 to 10 tracks simultaneously. Lack of control for or manipulation of critical variables, however, render the validity of this estimate somewhat tenuous. Data concerned with methods for altering the limits suffer from the same difficulty. A specific system simulation is strongly recommended. (Author)
