Abstract : Overpressure due to combustion in a flat crack is a function of crack dimension and geometry, as well as explosive physical and chemical properties. The growth of a crack in a deformable substance can be negligible, limited or self-sustaining, depending on relationships between the crack propagation rate and the duration of overpressure. These factors cannot all be determined theoretically, but must be supplied by experiment. (Author)
