Abstract : As an extension of earlier work by the author, the compatible subtraction algorithm is used to determine almost coincident roots among a set of algebraic equations of arbitrarily high degree. Only manual computation methods need be used. Also, a procedure for cubic equations is discussed for the determination of almost coincident complex roots, by examining the real root of an associated cubic. It seems likely that the associated equation method might be extended to higher degree equations. (Author)
