Abstract : The authors investigate the sources and their contributions to the long term frequency drift and gain stability of laser structures. The investigations yield now a more complete picture of the contributions of certain gas impurities to the index of refraction and their influence on the power output of the 6328A He-Ne gas mixture are outlined.
