Abstract : A comparison was made of the induction times of normal lead styphnate, basic lead styphnate, lead azide, and silver azide at various hot wire temperatures ranging from 630 to 3380C. An optical fiber technique was used. A linear relationship between the logarithm of the induction period and the reciprocal of the absolute temperature was observed for each explosive. Thus activation energies for the explosives could be calculated. These activation energies do not agree with those obtained from Wood's metal baths at lower temperatures (less than 360C). (Author)
