Abstract : An Air Combat Simulation (ACS) Workshop was held at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) on 17-19 January 1972 to explore the possibility of establishing authentication procedures and standards for ground rules. Manned simulators and all digital simulators with synthetic pilot logic were considered. The participants agreed that authentication and ground rule reporting are needed and possible. There was no agreement on a set of standard ground rules under which ACS engagement could be conducted. A series of tables and procedures for authentication of air combat simulators was developed and agreed upon. A tabular format for ground rule reporting was evolved. After the Workshop and as a result of it, a combat plan applicable to both mock air combat and ACS engagements was developed by IDA for use in baseline authentication of ACS facilities. (Author)
