Abstract : Series of computer calculations were performed to determine exposure rates which would be produced by radioactive fallout deposited in typical urban areas. First, a uniform fallout distribution was assumed and the perturbations to readings in the streets, caused by the presence of large neighboring structures, were determined. Next, the effects of various errors, inherent in the monitoring procedures, were examined. Finally, the magnitude of local 'hot spots' caused by the redistribution of fallout as might occur due to the action of the wind or rain, was assessed. (Author)
